why is it called The Hibbert Journal? I am trying to trace any family members of the Hibberts, especially from my late fathers side, his name was Arthur Matthew Hibbert, born south africa 1931, his father is listed as Ben (Bernard?)Hibbert, his age was listed as 25years, born Ireland, my fathers mother was listed as Mary Petrie Walter, 23 years old, born cape province. I have no further information than what is written above, and I don't know my way round the search sites even after reading the instructions. Does anyone know us?

I knew a Hibbet in NJ years ago, not Hibbert though. I doubt there are any europeans still alive in south africa from I have not seen in the news. Have you tried the family tree sites? I found a common ancestor on one of them and traced back to 9th century normans and William I, the king not the black eyed pea.

Hi Carol,
I replied several hours ago to one of your postings about a Hibbert man from Cape Town. I have some information about a 79-year-old friend of mine, Bernie Hibbert, who may (note "may") prove to be a useful source of help, if he is not actually the man you are looking for. Given the sensitive nature of some details of his life, I can't post it on a public forum just yet. For more details and a recent picture, you can contact my by e-mail on mwgeodek@mweb.co.za. Bernie was born in January 1931 and lived in Cape Town, but that doesn't necessarily mean he is the person you are seeking.
Regards,
George Starita (I prefer real names to my boydek screen name)

Dear Carol,
I have an elderly friend, now 79, who lived in Cape Town and was born in January 1931. Bernie Hibbert does not have the name you mention in your posting, but he may know of other Hibberts who once lived in Cape Town. He had children, but I'm not sure of their details. This is a bit of a long shot but it may, and I emphasise may, produce something. I can send a recent photo and some details of his life to your e-mail, since I would prefer not to make details of his life public just yet.
